Unleash Your Passion?

As discussed in our previous blog following your passion or finding your true sense of purpose in life is one of the keys to true happiness. Some people find that their passion and sense of purpose comes naturally to them; however, many people do not have a clue what that passion is. To find out what your passion or purpose is, let’s ask  some questions about what makes you happy, enthusiastic and excited about life.

What puts a smile on your face? – If doing a particular activity puts a smile on your face, then this a clear sign that it could be something you are passionate about.

What do you find easy, or love doing? – Is there something that you love doing as a hobby? Is there an activity you enjoyed as a child that could be revisited now? If you investigate your interests, maybe you will find something that could be turned into a part-time business to assist your current income. Once this business grows enough to support you, you could even cross over to doing it full time.

What do you spend hours reading about or researching? – Maybe you could write a book or start a web page or blog with all the knowledge you have accumulated. It is said that everyone has a book in them. If you are not sure if this is the right path for you, I recommend that you read ‘Who am I to Write a Book?’ by Lynne Klippel.

What is it you want to learn? – Learning doesn’t have to mean going back to school. There are so many audio, Internet based and correspondence courses available where you can learn a new skill in the privacy of your own home. Maybe you would like to learn a language, find out how to set up an Internet business, become a counsellor or life coach, or study natural medicine.

What would you do for nothing? – Is there anything you enjoy doing that you would consider volunteering your time at? There are hundreds of charities crying out for volunteers. Taking the time to assist others in need can help to fill a void in your life and can also help you to heal yourself.

Is there a physical activity you enjoy? – Perhaps you love kayaking, motorbike riding, surfing, swimming, running, yoga or tennis. Consider training as an instructor and teaching others.

What do you consider fun? – Maybe you would love to learn to sing, dance or play a musical instrument.

Are you creative? – Maybe you could take up painting, sewing, patchwork, calligraphy, sketching or pottery.

What are you afraid of, or have a fear of failing at?  –  Stepping outside the square and pushing your boundaries is a great way to build your confidence and boost your self esteem. It is very empowering to overcome your fears and can reflect positively in all areas of your life.

What gets you thinking? – Is there something that you are drawn to that inspires you to think? Perhaps you could make these thoughts come alive. Start to look at different ways something could be done, different formats it could be presented in or different applications it could be used for. There could even be a business idea in there!

Have you ever had an idea for a gadget? – Maybe you have thought about a gadget that you have never seen on the market before. Consider researching how you could produce and market this product. Do you have a product or idea that could fit a niche market?

What would you regret not doing? – If you were lying on your death bed, what is it that you would regret not trying? This regret may be an indication of a passion or purpose that you have not followed through on.

Where can you make a difference? – Perhaps there is a topic or situation that stirs strong emotions inside you. It could be physical or sexual abuse of children or women, cruelty to animals, homelessness, the elderly, or saving the environment. If you have strong emotions about a topic, then this could be your passion igniting. Your body and mind is telling you that you want to and can do something about this issue.

What gives you goose bumps? – Is there a topic or situation that causes your body to respond this way? This could be a clear signal from within, alerting you of your passion.

It took me a long time to find my passion, but I finally did. It finally happened when I was let go from my job 2 years ago. I have fibromyalgia and found it very hard to stay employed. When I was let go, I took time to find myself and found that I was passionate about being a virtual assistant. I started my new business in August, 2010 and haven’t looked back. I am very happy with my desicion and I had a very supportive husband. I believe things happen for a reason because in June we had our first child. Being able to work from home with my business has been a blessing because I don’t miss anything. I am able to watch my son grow up and enjoy every minute.

Hi Michelle, what a wonderful story. And yes I agree, eveything does happen for a reason. At the time it doesn’t always seem clear as to why it is happening but in time as we watch our lives unfold we begin to understand.Rather than struggle and push against the challenges of fibromyalgia you found another way that in the long term has allowed you to run your business and enjoy being a mum. Congratulations!!

Thanks Tracey, A lot of wisdom and food for thought there. I’m sure everyone could discover their passion if they asked themselves some of these questions.
