Are Limiting Beliefs Holding You Back?

There are many reasons that people do not find their true passion in life. One of the most common factors is low self esteem, which brings with it lack of confidence. Lack of confidence produces negative thought patterns and these negative thought patterns can in turn interrupt your excitement and enthusiasm. It is our thoughts and expectations that shape and produce what we become.

The key to improving self esteem is to take conscious control over negative thought patterns and take action to find your true passion in life.

When you find your passion, your thought processes will be more positive and your self esteem will be higher as you achieve your goals and dreams. Your enthusiasm and excitement will be infectious as you will want the rest of the world to experience what you have to share through your knowledge or talent. It is these passionate emotions that produce feelings of happiness and confidence, which in turn help to improve all aspects of your life.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.
Don’t let noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice.
And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow really know what you
truly want to become.
Everything else is secondary.”
Steve Jobs

We gain our predominant world view by the age of five. In other words, if your perception of the world is positive or negative, safe or unsafe, this perception has usually been determined by five years of age. Parents unconsciously pass on their beliefs, be they limiting or empowering, to their children. Sometimes in effect, we can be held back from pursuing our passion because of the way we were brought up.

  • Are you following in your parents’ footsteps?
  • Are you living your life the way that your parents did?
  • Are you following a career path because that is what is expected of you?
  • Have limitations been put on you by your parents?
  • Did your parents work all their lives in a mundane job?
  • Once they retired, did your parents have a fulfilling life or did they do nothing?
  • Are they happy?

Often our predominant world view is not a conscious state of awareness. It is possible that some of your beliefs around following your passion may be inherited, rather than being your chosen beliefs. It is up to each individual to identify if this is the case and make a conscious effort to know and understand that we can be whoever we want to be and achieve whatever we want to achieve.
